Services, to Open Chicago Retail Store in Late Summer 2017
Chicago, IL (July 12, 2017) – Town Cutler, the Bay Area’s premier purveyor of professional quality handmade knives and sharpening services, is pleased to announce the opening of its
second storefront, located in Chicago’s thriving West Loop neighborhood in late summer 2017.
Located at 1116 W. Madison St., Town Cutler will offer the city’s chefs, kitchenware consumers
and knife enthusiasts the finest cutlery, enduring handmade goods and expert sharpening
services.
Owner Galen Garretson spent 10 years working in professional kitchens before opening Town
Cutler in San Francisco’s Nob Hill neighborhood in 2011. The shop filled a much-needed niche
in the Bay Area, offering chefs and home cooks custom American-made knives, sharpening
classes and services, specialty kitchen tools, knife rolls and more. Garretson aims to provide
Chicagoans with the same outstanding goods and services.
“We have had our sights set on Chicago for a while now, having spent a lot of time here and
watching the city’s reputation as a culinary capital grow throughout the years,” said Garretson.“ With such a robust and exciting food scene, we feel the city perfectly aligns with our commitment to enduring handmade goods.”
The 1250-square-foot shop’s design mimics Town Cutler’s artisan ethos, with a warehouse
décor of exposed brick walls, high wood-beam ceilings, concrete floors, a custom pulley knife
display and a raw steel counter running the length of the shop. Large windows overlook bustling Madison Street, home to Monteverde, MAD Social, Madison Bar + Kitchen, and more.
Garretson’s decision to launch Town Cutler’s flagship Chicago store on Madison Street marks
continued expansion of the West Loop’s culinary community beyond the bustling Fulton Market strip, pioneering commercial expansion in an up-and-coming and as-yet-untapped segment of the neighborhood. The opening also represents a significant expansion in artisan, restaurant quality cutlery and sharpening services, highly in demand among Chicago’s vibrant restaurant and home-chef communities.
Town Cutler will offer its own proprietary line of custom American-made knives, as well as
knives from a variety of Japanese makers, sharpening classes, same-day sharpening services,
